Performance, handling, riding experience: size matters

Mountain bikers are regularly confronted with obstacles, such as rocks or roots. If you are using small wheels, you will often have to lift the front wheel even for medium-sized bumps. With big wheels, on the other hand, you no longer need to worry about how to avoid the next root or stone and can concentrate fully on the trail. 29″ wheels simply roll over these. This also means that big wheels run more smoothly. The bike remains far more stable than with smaller tyres, even on rough ground and at high speeds on downhill sections.

On the other hand, 29″ tyres are a bit more sluggish in tight, technical sections and you need to apply more power for the next hairpin bend. Naturally, your riding style and body size also play a role in choosing the right tyre size. With our MTB hardtails, you not only have the choice between different frame sizes but, with many models, you can also decide whether you prefer riding on 29-inch or 27.5-inch tyres.

If you love a responsive riding experience, like to whizz around flow trails, enjoy rapid acceleration after tight curves and are a fan of playful handling, then you'll love our hardtails. Our two top models – HardRay 8.0 and 7.0 – feature a lightweight carbon frame and an impressively nimble cross-country geometry that is perfectly tailored to accommodate 29” wheels. We use SRAM brakes and drivetrains on both of these models, and they both come with RockShox suspension with 100 mm travel.
